A local boxer, tourism operator, mom, and former nurse is launching a Passion for Parkinson’s training camp to help people with Parkinson’s strengthen their bodies and improve coordination.
Lita Mae Button, a decorated amateur boxer with deep roots in Conception Bay North, moved to Broad Cove from Ontario during the pandemic.
She developed Button Adventures a tourism operation focused on what she calls “fitness, family, food and fun.”
She’s even incorporated goat therapy in the form of goat walks into her focus on physical and mental wellness.
Having worked with patients with Parkinson’s and seeing the impacts of the degenerative disease, she’s merged her love of boxing with Parkinson’s therapy.
She says a lot has gone into the coaching she’s done over the years and has combined “the best of everything” into her Passion for Parkinson’s training camps. They include fitness, social dynamics, animal therapy and reducing the risk of falls, which is a major concern for Parkinson’s patients.
The Passion for Parkinson’s Training Camp is held at the Ochre Pit Cove Retreat. The first official camp is scheduled for December 2-4.
