Something that could remedy the province’s reliance on other jurisdictions for the importation of food is better infrastructure to get the product from the producers into people’s hands
That’s according to Josh Smee, CEO of Food First NL.
Smee says everything is produced here at a smaller scale, and farms are not the same size as they are on the mainland. That, he says, makes the supply chain more complicated.
He says there are many people here that live near where food is grown, but they don’t have anywhere to buy it, and unless they are able to go around to each farm individually it makes buying local difficult.
