The sister of a Bishop’s Falls woman who requires 24-hour care but wants to stay in a home setting says she’s frustrated with the inability to find a solution best for her sister.
Lisa Marsh told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that her 58-year-old sister who requires continual care was doing fine until their mother suddenly passed away over the summer.
Denise Champion’s home care worker has developed a bond with Denise and wants to take her into her own home to care for her 24/7, but Marsh says Central Health is not offering enough money.
She says Central Health is proposing to cut the home care worker’s salary in half, which would result in her taking on greater responsibility without being paid for it.
Marsh says the family wants a meeting with officials to address the situation.
Marsh was told that her sister would not do well in long-term care and in light of some of the recent news surrounding long-term care in the province “I totally agree,” she says.
She has a meeting on Friday after four months of trying to secure a meeting.
