There have been a number of instances of earthquake activity recorded in and around the province in recent days.
The most recent tremblor, an earthquake registering 2.9 on the Richter scale, was reported in Central Newfoundland on Saturday.
The earthquake, which was relatively small, was located approximately 33 km southwest of the Duck Pond Mine.
It followed a 2.8 magnitude quake near Gallants on November 7, and a 2.0 magnitude quake near Port Anson in Notre Dame Bay on November 3.
Another 3.1 magnitude quake was recorded off the south coast of Newfoundland on November 20.
All of the quakes originated deep underground at a depth of approximately 18 km. Quakes of a magnitude of 3 or under are seldom felt and typically don’t result in any damage.
