Not everyone is experiencing the rain and relatively mild temperatures of the east. In fact, it has been a snowy November on the west coast but without frost and cold temperatures.
The Snowmobile Federation warns that early-season conditions can be hazardous so use caution if heading out to enjoy the new-fallen snow.
Peter Troke, President of The Discovery Trails Snowmobile Association and director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation, says the ground does not have the frozen foundation at this time of year that it would have in winter.
As well, Troke says ponds and rivers which would be frozen in winter are just open water.
The snow that fell in central and in the west did not have a lot of substance to it, says Troake, which means it’s more powder-like. Snowmobilers have to watch for hidden obstacles such as rocks and stumps.
