The Association for New Canadians is hosting it’s first-ever toy drive in support of newcomers who have arrived in Newfoundland and Labrador some with little more than the clothes on their backs.
Community Connections Co-ordinator with the ANC, Alice Keough says they’re doing their part to help bring smiles to people who have lived through some pretty traumatic experiences and are making a go of it in a strange new home.
She says they have already seen a heart-warming outpouring of support.
The St. John’s Caps U13 A team held a toy drive this week and donated $100 in cash and gift cards, and toys. Maisie Crowder of Chance Cove raised over $1,300 by raffling off a hand-made quilt with a Ukrainian sunflower.
The ANC’s toy drive is taking place Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at their English as a Second Language Learning Centre located in the old St. Pius X Parish Hall on Smithville Cresent in St. John’s.
