Some sobering statistics are being released by NL RCMP on this National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.
The RCMP say nine people died in their jurisdiction in 2021 as the result of impaired driving, while 393 drivers were charged with impaired driving offences.
That equates to more than one person a day being charged with impaired driving.
Of those 398 cases, 67 involved drivers operating off-road vehicles, 332 were impaired by alcohol, 55 were impaired by drugs, and 11 were impaired by a combination of alcohol and drugs.
Police are urging anyone who suspects a driver may be impaired to call 911 or contact your local police detachment as soon as possible.
