The Downtown St. John’s Santa Claus Parade is set to go ahead today.
After being postponed due to inclement weather last weekend, conditions are looking good for Santa Claus and parade participants to make their way through downtown St. John’s.
Gaylynne Gulliver, Parade CEO, or ‘Chief Elf Officer’ says they didn’t lose many participants due to the date change. She says spectators are in for a wide variety of floats and entertainment.
The parade will get underway at noon at the Fort William Building, head down Duckworth towards Prescott, and finish up on Water Street near Springdale Street.
Food and monetary donations are being collected in support of local food banks.
She says they’re also accepting letters heading to the North Pole.
She asks that letters be sent to the following address:

Gulliver reminds people to include their return address so Santa can write back.
There will be no parking along the parade route but AP Parking Garage is offering free parking to those looking to take in the event. A free shuttle service will also be available.
The Santa Shuttle will leave Confederation Building and the NL Housing Building starting at 10:00 a.m. on a load-and-go basis. The shuttle from the east end will be dropping people off at Bannerman Park while the west end shuttle will be dropping riders off at Mary Browns Centre.
A number of road closures will be in effect to accommodate the parade route:
