St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen is responding to a wide disparity in the bids received for a tender for private winter snow clearing in the downtown.
The range of bids was wide, with approximately $500,000 separating the highest and lowest bids, leading to questions about the scope of work involved.
Mayor Breen told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that it’s not unusual to see a wide range of bids come in when tenders are called. It’s then up to city staff to carefully review the bids.
He recently noticed a very wide variance in bids for grass cutting on city spaces.
