Most people are compliant with drunk driving laws but on the weekend, police were able to nab a handful of those who chose to drink and drive anyhow.
A large-scale checkpoint on the TCH at the Foxtrap Weigh Scales on Saturday, National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day, resulted in two men, ages 57 and 65, testing positive for cannabis on roadside screening equipment.
RCMP are awaiting the results of follow-up testing. Later that day, the checkpoint was moved to Bay Roberts where a 61-year-old received a seven-day suspension.
In total, more than a thousand vehicles were checked. Also cited for failing drug or breath tests were a 60-year-old man from Clarenville and a 54-year-old from Cormack.
Police also set up roadside in Nain, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Gander, Joe Batts Arm, Burin, Mooring Cove and Salt Pond.
