A request to the provincial government for financial relief for Kilbride residents affected by damage caused by Post Tropical Storm Earl has been denied.
The storm, which hit the area in late September, caused damage to roads and a number of homes in the area.
The City of St. John’s requested $900,000 dollars in disaster relief, but was denied as the province says the damage was insurable.
Ward 5 councillor Carl Ridgeley says while many residents had insurance, others were unable to receive enough coverage.
He says many insurance companies denied coverage for flood damage, while other residents did not have enough insurance. Ridgeley says some residents were only covered for $8,000 dollars, which isn’t nearly enough to cover $50,000 dollars worth of damage.
