A fundraiser is taking place at The Ship Pub this week in support of a musician with terminal cancer.
The event is in support of singer-songwriter John Cossar.
According to his wife Sandy, for about a year she has been trying to find a way to stay at home with her husband to be his caregiver, and spend as much time together as possible “before the inevitable happens.”
She is a self-employed housekeeper and thus was deemed ineligible for EI. However, once the local musical community heard about the situation, she says plans were put in motion to put off a benefit concert for the couple.
Lots of performers have stepped forward, including Chris and Andrew LeDrew, Dave and Geoff Panting, and Colleen Power.
Cossar says even the man the fundraiser is for will be taking to the stage.
She says when the concert was first proposed a month ago they weren’t sure John would be able to attend. But, she says he has turned a corner, and the couple will be performing at the event.
The fundraiser is taking place at The Ship on Thursday night. As well, an online fundraiser has also been started in support of the event.
