A 14-year-old, who was already on a court-ordered driving prohibition, was arrested in Clarenville on the weekend for allegedly driving a taxi, stolen from St. John’s.
RCMP noticed the cab speeding along Manitoba Drive in Clarenville around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
The cab was pulled over and the 14-year-old driver was arrested for dangerous driving. RNC confirmed that the taxi had been reported stolen from St. John’s a couple of hours earlier.
The police investigation determined that the teen filled up the stolen cab in a gas and dash at a gas station on the Trans Canada Highway in Goobies around 1:45 a.m. that same morning.
RCMP say the cab was also involved in a hit-and-run involving a parked vehicle in Clarenville.
The boy is charged with dangerous driving, failure to stop at the scene of a crash, possession of stolen property over $5,000, theft under $5,000 (gas) and breaches of various court orders and a probation order.
The child is also charged with a number of criminal offences by RNC in St. John’s. He’s being held in custody at the NL Youth Centre pending his next court appearance on December 20.
