RNC are encouraging people to report crimes in the downtown as they happen, however, a local musician says response times leave something to be desired.
Rowan Sherlock is one of a number of downtown musicians who are concerned about their safety while working in the area. He says musicians are nervous leaving clubs with their instruments, and he’s even heard from performers who have had their drinks spiked.
A downtown coalition has been formed—including the RNC—to address growing safety concerns in the area.
RNC say it’s important to report and log complaints from the area when they happen, however, Sherlock says he’s hearing response is not always timely.
He witnessed a man being “beaten pretty badly” and called police as it was happening but “I waited and I waited and nothing happened.”
The coalition is meeting in the near future to help come up with a collective response to increased violence in the downtown.
