Saint Luke’s Community Living has received a $5,000 dollar grant from the Bell Let’s Talk Community Fund to support an eight-week, mindfulness-based mental health program for seniors.
The program is adapted from Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program, with elements of Mindfuness Based Cognitive Therapy. The program helps people manage anxiety and depression and helps build resilience.
Seniors’ Wellness Navigator for Saint Luke’s Community Living, Susan Haskell, says participants report they are sleeping better, coping with stressful situations and controlling their anxiety.
