It’s tough enough now to get oneself to hospital via emergency transport; well that could become a whole lot more difficult in the near future.
About 35 private ambulances around all corners of the island and the EMR’s, paramedics and dispatchers who operate them have voted for strike action.
Hubert Dawe, the business agent for Teamsters Local 855, says wages are the number one issue but pensions and other items are also part of the discussion.
Close to 70 workers are involved and while no strike date has been set, Dawe indicates that government is not willing to move on the key issues. Last-ditch efforts of the last two days in Clarenville to hammer out an agreement went nowhere.
Most concerning to him is that if they do go on strike, there is no provision to provide emergency services.
