More wind and rain is expected to continue for many parts of the island today following days of rain, drizzle and fog.
Meteorologist with Environment Canada’s Gander Weather Office Rodney Barney says wind warnings are still in effect for the Wreckhouse area and much of the west coast up to Parson’s Pond.
Barney says the west coast saw some remarkably high gusts overnight.
He says they saw gusts as high as 132 km/h in Rocky Harbour and gusts over 130 km/h in the Wreckhouse as well.
Early this morning, the new weather station at Rocky Harbour recorded easterly winds near 131 km/h! This improved wind data will greatly improve our ability to forecast downslope winds in western NF. Weather warning information is available here: https://t.co/7JgT0KTbT3 #nlwx

There is a rainfall warning in effect for areas from the Bay of Exploits down to Bonavista.
Barney says they’re expecting rainfall totals of 40 to 70 mm by the time the system is all said and done. It should wrap up Thursday, but the heaviest rain will be through the day today.
With that heavy rain comes potential flooding in areas like central where there is snow on the ground.
Barney explains that the snow melting, rain coming and frozen ground could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Barney adds it’s looking like a relatively quiet and mild weekend across the island. However, they are keeping an eye on another rain system moving in late Sunday and into Monday.
