Residents of Portugal Cove-St. Philips will see an increase in their mill rate in 2023.
The town tabled its budget the week. Town services have been affected by inflation-based cost increases, resulting in a half point increase in the mill rate from 6.5 to 7 mills.
It’s the first increase in the mill rate since 2015. The town is also discontinuing early payment discounts, and there will be a $75 increase in water rates, and a $25 increase in sewer fees.
A new five-year strategic plan was also adopted. Some initiatives for 2023 include planning for the development of a new Town Recreation Lifestyle Centre, the installation of solar lights at Voisey’s Brook Park, development of community trails, and a splash pad at Rainbow Gully Park.
