Get your bras, pillow cases, rubber boots and long underwear ready… the town of Carbonear is bringing back it’s annual Jannies parade.
Jannies, or Mummers, are part of an ancient Christmas visiting tradition celebrated in Newfoundland and Labrador whereby people dress up in disguise, often with clothes that are readily available, and visit door-to-door looking for a dance and a drink.
Carbonear Mayor Frank Butt says after two years of COVID restrictions, they’re bringing the 7th annual parade back tomorrow evening.
He says the last time they held the parade in person people were lined off along the street and joining in as it passed by.
The parade will form at Harbour Rock Hill at 7 p.m. and wind its way down to the Civic Centre for refreshments and entertainment.
