The City of St. John’s has a full slate of fun, free and family-friendly events planned to ring in the new year.
Activities begin at 9:00 a.m. with “gym and swim” until 11:00 a.m. for all ages at the Mews and Paul Reynolds centres.
That will be followed by a skating party at The Loop in Bannerman Park from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., featuring holiday music, free hot chocolate and party favours at the Loop. It’s weather-permitting and people should call the Loop Line at 733-LOOP (5667) on New Year’s Eve to ensure plans are on schedule.
After skating, there will be a countdown celebration to the fireworks at Quidi Vidi Lake, which is set for 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a live DJ and accessible viewing, plus noise-cancelling headphones for those who need them.
If the weather doesn’t co-operate, the fireworks will be postponed until 8:00 p.m. New Year’s Day.
