An Innovation Centre for remote operations is being established in the capital city’s east end, and the local tech industry is celebrating it as a significant milestone.
In front of a room full of industry stakeholders on Monday, the provincial and federal governments announced 9.6 million for the initiative, to be paid out over several years.
The centre, lead by TechNL., will be located in the old Rona building on Torbay Road.

CEO Florian Villaume says their goal is to create what he calls a “world-class ecosystem for remote operations” that they say will benefit numerous sectors including technology, mining, energy, healthcare and aquaculture.
The space will include areas for light industrial work, office space, and event space for programming.
Villaume has high hopes for what is possible in the centre. He wants to see many companies working in the space and collaborating together. As well, he wants to see companies from outside the province come here to be part of the centre.
