The City of St. John’s is working on a solution to a lighting situation in the Outer Battery that has become a flashpoint for local residents.
Excessively bright lights beaming night and day from a residence in the area have become such an annoyance to neighbours that an online petition was created to have the lights banned.
With no regulations on lighting, the city hasn’t been able to take disciplinary action, but according to deputy mayor Sheilagh O’Leary, they hope to find a solution in the new year.
She says the city plans to table the issue in 2023.
O’Leary and Mayor Danny Breen recently met with residents and Breen agrees it is a problem. He says the city has tried to mediate but it comes down to both sides getting together and working it out.
At the final council meeting of 2022, St. John’s Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary says the issue of excessive lighting in the Outer Battery will be tabled in the new year.
