Despite some early optimism, Marble Mountain will not be opening for the season next week as originally hoped.
In a post to Facebook, the popular ski resort says they received record snowfall in November, but that has melted away from their base area over what has been an unseasonably warm and wet December.
They say the upper parts of the mountain are in great shape, with fresh snow still falling. However, without snow-covered connections all the way to the bottom they cannot open the chairlifts, and without much snow in the forecast for the next week, it is “very unlikely” that they will be able to open on December 28.
As such, they state that they will be focusing their snow-making equipment on the lower levels of the mountain. With good temperatures colder than minus five and low humidity, that could result in a lot of man-made snow.
They are now aiming for the lifts to be open either the first or second week of January.
The next update will be provided next Wednesday.
