This doesn’t bode well for the university community. MUNFA, which can take a strike vote this time next week, has secured an off-site facility to serve as its strike headquarters should the dispute with MUN come to that. Memorial can also choose to lock out the faculty.
MUNFA says its proposal for a new agreement for the approximate 800 academic staff would have actually saved the university money but they rejected it.
The two parties have reached an impasse and no talks are planned.

MUNFA offered to have all employees pay more and receive the same level of benefits but they rejected that. He says that tells them that the dispute is not about money but power.
