The old Lions Club in Shearstown has been destroyed by fire. The blaze, resembling an inferno at times, broke out just after 5:00 a.m. this morning.

The Bay Roberts Fire/Rescue department had an uphill battle on their hands from the outset but Mother Nature cooperated as it did not spread to any homes in the area.

The building was not in use as an events venue, but used more for storage than anything.
The main road in Shearstown has now reopened.
The cause is under investigation by the RCMP.
