RCMP have arrested two men in connection with an incident in the Placentia area.

While there will continue to be an increased police presence in the area, there is no threat to public safety and residents can now return to normal activities.

People in the Placentia area say shots have been fired and that there are many police officers on the scene of an incident in Dunville.

RCMP are telling people in the area of Ville Marie Drive to stay in their homes and are telling others to avoid the area. Offices are focused on a house on Ville Marie Drive.

One person who lives nearby said the tactical unit is in the area and the megaphones are in use.

Police assure that public safety is not under threat.

The incident began unfolding at about 3:00 this morning and the advisories remain in effect.
