As many plan to tear open presents around the Christmas tree, the public is reminded to pay careful attention to how they dispose of various gift wrap.

The City of St. John’s says the traditional wrapping paper is not recyclable and must be disposed of in clear bags.

People are being asked to reuse things such as gift bags to prevent additional waste.
