It may not seem like much on the surface, but the revival of the West Coast Senior Hockey League is seen in some circles as another step toward a return to some normalcy on the southwest coast after Fiona.
The league will feature the Port aux Basques Mariners, Corner Brook Royals and Deer Lake Red Wings with a total of 12 games each beginning January 6.
Mayor Brian Button says that when the military left the Bruce II Arena in the fall, reopening the facility to the public was a priority.
“It gives people a night out as this is a hockey town…having sport and recreation and activities around the community will be a good thing, especially for the mental side of things,” says the mayor.
