The southwest coast has come a long way since Hurricane Fiona ripped through but, in many respects, the work has just begun.

Port aux Basques was by far the hardest hit and it’s difficult to imagine any scenario that doesn’t involve the designation of a “no-build” zone along parts of the coastline.

Mayor Brian Button says they do have tracts of land for new housing but municipal infrastructure will also have to be part of the discussion.

He says the rebuild will be a complex and lengthy process involving many factors and including all levels of government.
