One of the greatest soccer players of all time has died.
Pelé passed away earlier today at the age of 82 from colon cancer.
Perhaps the most recognizable athlete of the last century, he would become a global face for the sport.
He holds the joint record for Brazil’s all-time scorer and captured three World Cups in 1958, 1962 and 1970 over a 14-year international career. In 1,363 games, he scored 1,281 goals.
Pelé would also popularize the sport in the United States, joining the New York Cosmos in 1975.
