The new President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour says top on her list early in the coming year will be recommendations for the provincial government to improve pay equity legislation.
The province introduced the legislation in the fall, but the Federation of Labour was quick to label it as “woefully inadequate.”
Jessica McCormick was acclaimed as the new President of the Federation in November. She says they have a number of recommendations to improve the legislation.
She says they need to be at the table to address what she calls “significant gaps” in the private sector. A lot of the people who experience the most significant gender wage gap according to McCormick, work in sectors like retail and hospitality.
