Musicians working downtown St. John’s have formalized a process for documenting unsafe incidents.
The Downtown Safety Coalition was formed after several musicians were confronted by strangers who sometimes would try to steal their instruments or relieve them of cash.
Since launching a form a couple of weeks ago to be filled out by people experiencing such incidents, MusicNL has already received three reports. Executive Director, Rhonda Tulk-Lane, says that’s three incidents too many.
The organization says it is keeping its finger on the pulse of what is happening in entertainment districts. One such way is through Project Soundcheck, a sexual harassment and assault prevention initiative.
Training for that initiative will be offered on January 18th in partnership with a local group called The Journey Project.
