The bright lights shining down from a home in the battery is the subject of a letter to the city from the local Council of Canadians.
The ongoing issue has become a nightmare for local residents with over 2,700 people signing a petition to get the City of St. John’s to implement a nuisance lighting by-law.
Without such a regulation, the city has been unable to take any disciplinary action.
A letter by the Avalon Chapter, Council of Canadians argues that the city should be able to take action to protect the health and safety of residents.
Helen Forsey, a member behind the letter says there can be serious risks to having such bright lights constantly beaming down.
She says the full impact of bright lights on animals and humans is unknown but notes that she has issues handling certain lighting and it could be a serious concern for people with epilepsy.
The city says they met with residents last month and they plan to table the discussion in the weeks ahead.
Forsey says they’ll continue to apply pressure on council until they are able to remove the lights for good.
