The flu season got off to an early and roaring start last year, leading to serious concerns about a further spike during or immediately following the holiday season.
Infectious disease specialist at Dalhousie University, Dr. Lisa Barrett says what we’re seeing here, is similar to the flu season experienced in Australia, which is now heading into summer.
She says what’s encouraging is that Australia saw a very early and high peak, followed by a levelling out.
Barrett says while the number of cases in the community is starting to come down slightly, they aren’t down enough to suggest that we won’t see more cases as people get together.
