Conception Bay South is in the early stages of planning for a regional community centre. It would be a multi-million dollar indoor facility with a stage, courts and other amenities. Mayor Darrin Bent says the centre would be located in the “gateway” area at the top of Legion Road in Kelligrews.

Mayor Bent says they’re currently only at the concept design stage. The lack of such an indoor space in the town really showed itself during the pandemic.

He sees it as a regional space to serve Conception Bay Centre and St. Mary’s Bay in addition to the hub town.

He says the desire to have such a facility is something which they have heard going door-to-door for some time. It’s going to be a focus of the town council which they hope will be funded by all three levels of government.
