Employees of the province’s largest private ambulance service are planning a phased-in approach to a disruption in services.
The paramedics, dispatchers and EMRs with Fewer’s have been in a legal strike position since mid-November.
Teamsters Local 855 represents the approximate 100 workers at Fewer’s across the island. The business agent for the union, Hubert Dawe, says they will begin over the next week or two with a “work to rule” which will not result in any change to wait times or service levels.
The ambulances at hand are privately operated and do not include those operated by the hospitals and health authorities.
They’re not looking to be on par with the public service—they just want to see a wage increase and some form of retirement package because there is nothing in place currently for those who retire.
Ambulance services from east to west will be included in the job action.
