Members of the FFAW elect a new president today, but the process is not going without some controversy. VOCM’s Linda Swain reports.
Two people are in the running to replace Keith Sullivan as president: west coast businessman and VOCM Open Line regular, Dave Callahan, and Greg Pretty who was already endorsed by the union executive. A third candidate, long-time union critic Jason Sullivan, was rejected as ineligible.
Sullivan is criticizing the process as undemocratic, but the union says a constitutional amendment was unanimously passed by delegates in 2018, with the intent of preventing members of an organization trying to replace the FFAW from running for elected position.
FFAW Secretary Treasurer Jason Spingle says Jason Sullivan “has made it his mission to discredit,” the union, and “continues to make vile, slanderous attacks on individuals.”
The results of today’s secret ballot election will be known later this afternoon at the Comfort Inn in St. John’s. VOCM News will be there.
