A judge will decide next month if an RNC officer is guilty of assaulting her partner on the west coast.
34-year-old Constable Noelle Laite is charged with assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and assault by choking or suffocating.
The alleged victim, 27-year-old Dominique Kelly, testified the relationship gradually went from normal to violent, with petty disputes escalating into yelling, screaming and abuse.
On one occasion it’s alleged Laite struck Kelly, kicking and punching her on the floor of their Pasadena home.
Kelly claims it was Laite who initiated the incidents, which are alleged to have occurred between 2020 and this past January, when charges were laid.
The defence, meanwhile, has argued Kelly’s memory is poor due to alcohol consumed at the time, suggesting it was Kelly who was the aggressor.
Both sides concluded their arguments this week in Corner Brook, with Judge Wayne Gorman expected to deliver his verdict in mid-February.
Laite, meanwhile, has remained on the job but assigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the case.
