The provincial government has signed a shared agenda for family medicine with the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association.
According to government, the document symbolizes a commitment to address critical issues related to the retention of family physicians.
The shared agenda outlines “high priority issues and projects” such as recruitment and retention, a health human resource forecast and plan, collaborative community care teams, and provision of emergency medicine that will result in “permanent and sustainable improvements” to family medicine.
The agenda includes initiatives that are already started, ones that are already in the works, and new solutions with target dates for completion this year.
The document builds on the Memorandum of Agreement signed between government and the NLMA in 2022 and other initiatives already announced.
