An award winning actor is bringing his celebrated one-person show to the island in honour of a late giant of the industry.
Raoul Bhaneja is coming to the island to present Hamlet (solo), a one-man version of the Shakespeare classic at Memorial University’s Grenfell Campus, however another stint in St. John’s will bring with it a special presentation to the Paul Pope Legacy Fund, a charitable effort in the name of the prolific film and television producer. All proceeds from the St. John’s showings will go to the fund.
Bhaneja says he first met Pope in 1997 while filming Extraordinary Visitor, and met up with him again when filming a scene for Hudson and Rex during Snowmageddon.
He said with the power out and food running low, Pope invited him into his home for a bowl of soup, talking about movies, show business and the industry in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Bhaneja says it’s his way of honouring a driver of the arts.
He says Pope was a great person and character, but also a massive support of the arts scene in St. John’s.
The show runs January 13 in Corner Brook at the Rotary Arts Center and January 16 and 17 at the Arts and Culture Centre in St. John’s.
