Jury selection is scheduled for today in the trial of a teacher accused of having sexual contact with a student.
34-year-old Krysta Grimes is charged with unlawfully committing sexual exploitation involving a boy.
His age and anything else that could identify him is banned from publication.
The charge reads that Grimes, “while in a position of trust or authority, did for a sexual purpose touch directly or indirectly a part of her body with the body of (the boy).”
It’s alleged it happened in the town of Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove in the spring of 2018—almost five years ago.
Police began investigating in January of 2019 after receiving a complaint from the English school district, with Grimes charged seven months later.
The trial was set for March of 2021 but was postponed due to COVID-related issues.
A new trial set for November of that year but was postponed again when Grimes switched lawyers.
She’s the second local teacher to be charged recently with a sexual offence against a student.
40-year-old Noel Strapp was sentenced last year to four years in prison for sexual assault against a female student.
