A six-year veteran of the RNC has been found guilty of assaulting her former partner.
34-year-old Const. Noelle Laite was convicted of assault and assault causing bodily harm this afternoon in Corner Brook provincial court.
There were stark contradictions in the testimony of Laite and her former partner and victim, 27-year-old Dominque Kelly. The pair had shared a home together in Pasadena.
But in the end, Judge Wayne Gorman said Kelly’s evidence was credible and reliable, while Laite’s was anything but, saying it was not honest or truthful and reflected poorly on all of her testimony.
Key evidence for Kelly was also corroborated by witnesses, as well as photos of numerous bruises all over her body.
Gorman noted Laite attacked her at various times in various ways, including pushing, grabbing her by the neck, and throwing things at her, all of which Laite denied.
She was acquitted of two other charges of assault with a weapon and assault by choking or suffocating.
Laite remains free on conditions pending the sentencing phase of the case on Feb. 28th.
The RNC routinely does not comment on the status of officers in such cases until the potential for all appeals, if any, is exhausted.
