Memorial University’s Faculty of Nursing has set up a number of satellite sites in the province, adding 72 seats to its Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
Government earmarked $3 million in the last provincial budget to increase the number of seats in MUN’s nursing program by 25 per cent, allowing the school of nursing to open three new satellite sites in Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor and Labrador.
It’s hoped the approach will help to recruit more nurses locally, especially for candidates who might not normally get a chance to pursue an education in nursing.
Associate dean of satellite sites with MUN’s Faculty of Nursing, Andrea Watkins says the sites have already seen a fair amount of inquiries from interested applicants.
