Trades NL is launching a new Build Right Here campaign in anticipation of the start of construction on the Bay du Nord project.
First oil from Equinor’s massive deep water project isn’t expected for about five years, with construction expected in another year once a benefits agreement is hammered out with the provincial government.
Executive Director of Trades NL, Darin King says there are several components to the project, including the hull, topsides and subsea work, and he doesn’t see why most of that work shouldn’t happen here.
He says everything, except the hull—which is far too big—can, and should, be built here. The remainder of the components are bigger, but similar to that of the Terra Nova and the Sea Rose which were constructed here.
