The College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador has confirmed that a person who was not a licensed LPN in this province had been hired at two more long-term care facilities in the metro area.
The woman first came to the attention of the public just before Christmas when Central Health announced that it had become aware that someone who was not a Registered Nurse had worked a number of shifts at Lakeside Homes in Gander during the fall.
It’s since been learned that the same woman had been employed as an LPN at three separate long-term care homes in the metro area earlier in the year even though she is not registered as a Licensed Practical Nurse in this province.
According to the CLPNNL, the woman worked a number of shifts at Chancellor Park and Kenney’s Pond, and was on the casual list at Lane’s.
CEO and Registrar at the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador, Wanda Wadman says the matter has been brought to the attention of the RNC.
She says when an individual is licensed by the CLPNNL, it has assessed that person to be of good character, that they have no criminal record, and that they have the appropriate credentials to provide safe, competent nursing care. “We can say that about those who we regulate, but we can’t speak to those who are unregulated, and this individual was unregulated.”
