Residents of Harbour Grace who use the Old Southside Well for their water should find an alternate source for now. Arsenic levels have exceeded the Canadian guidelines, and boiling does not reduce arsenic levels.

The water cannot be used for drinking, cooking or consumption but can be used for bathing and household chores.

The town does not know when levels will return to acceptable status.
