Torngat Mountains MHA Lela Evans is pleased to hear the province is listening to concerns regarding housing in Labrador, but questions why it took a visit from the minister responsible in order to be acknowledged.

John Abbott, Minister of Children, Seniors, and Social Development recently returned from Labrador to get a first hand look at housing challenges faced by those on the north coast.

The visit was prompted by a visit from Canada’s Housing Advocate visiting the district and describing it as a “on-going human rights failure.”

Evans wonders why concerns are only recognized by government when they are shamed into taking action and says it’s time to hold the province accountable in addressing issues.
