An Independent MHA is asking for more people to consider running solo.
Mount Pearl-Southlands MHA Paul Lane says that while the next election may be a couple years out, anyone who is serious about campaigning should begin planning.
He says those that are unhappy with the current administration, but many don’t see a viable alternative with the opposition parties. He says the PCs halted any traction in presenting themselves as an alternative by aligning with the federal Conservative party.
Lane says while he appreciates the social conscience the NDP bring to the table, he does not believe they have realistic financial plans, specifically with related to the oil and gas industry.
He says partisan politics have gotten the province no where since 1949, and by electing more independents, their would be more balance in the House of Assembly.
