The NDP member for Labrador West is worried about the impact of continued medical diversions from the hospital in Goose Bay to Lab City.
Jordan Brown says medical diversions from the facility in Goose Bay for obstetrics and surgery patients started on December 23 and were supposed to have come to an end on January 13, but have been extended another ten days.
Brown is very concerned about the impact that will have on patients and their families.
He says instead of listening to public health workers who for years have raised concerns about working conditions, government and regional health authorities have instead relied on locums and private nursing agencies to fill vacancies.
That can’t continue says Brown, who believes patients deserve a reliable public healthcare system and workers deserve “respect and a work life balance.”
