The verdict in the trial of a St. John’s teacher accused of having sex with a student is due to be handed down February 10.
34-year-old Krysta Grimes faces a single charge of sexual exploitation against the male student who was 16 when the incident is alleged to have occurred in 2018.
The complainant, who is now 21, testified that they planned the get-together through Snapchat, and ended up having sex in the back seat of his parents’ car.
Evidence in the four-day trial wrapped up yesterday when the defence declined to call any witnesses.
The defence maintained that inconsistencies in the alleged victim’s evidence, as well as less-than-thorough police work, should lead to an acquittal.
Grimes originally chose to be tried by judge and jury, but changed her mind and proceeded with judge alone last week.
If convicted, she faces at least a year in jail.
